10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu is a modern non-traditional style of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu developed by Eddie Bravo. After earning a black belt under Jean-Jacques Machado, Eddie Bravo focused his jiu-jitsu on training without the gi, partially because of the applications to mixed martial arts. The main premise behind the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system is that the art should keep evolving.
All classes focus on 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu techniques blended with wrestling, Judo, and submission grappling. The goal of the class is to help students become well rounded grapplers by emphasizing the 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu system focusing on the core movements, positions, and submissions in the 10th Planet System well as crucial No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu concepts.
10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu classes also focus on the 10th Planet Warmups. The 10th Planet Warmups are a sequence of techniques lettered A-H. Each day of the week focuses on a different letter and thus ensures students are exposed to the overall 10th Planet System of techniques, sequences, and movements.
The Kids program is for ages 5-14 and focuses on building a strong foundation and understanding of Jiu-Jitsu with self defense first and competition second. Kids classes consist of a basic warmup, instruction and drilling, and live sparring. The basic warmup consists of learning and practicing core Jiu-Jitsu movements such as forwards and backwards rolls, hip escapes, and duckwalks. Instruction focuses on 1-2 techniques per class coupled with partner practice. Each class is ended with a lively sparring session conducted in a safe environment. The sparring sessions are designed to help the student apply Jiu-Jitsu techniques consistently and safely while under pressure.
